PLC Meeting 9-24-18

Attendance: Comstock Ruffin

Discussed ECE accommodations for students in Fin. Lit. Several students need readers and scribes.
Looked into developing more individualized instruction.

Options discussed

  •  Using an online learning environment
    •   Gives students video 
    •  They can learn at their own pace
    •  Limited reading
    •  No writing required
  •  Finding other ways to accommodate these students

  • Digital Backpack will be discussed thoroughly on Gold Day, October 8th
  • Dawn attended district training 9/24 regarding the backpack and a deeper look into the ultimate goal
    • Sports analogy: daily work is practice setting up for the big game (tests, authentic projects, experiential assignments, and the “Defense”)
  • Quality of work for backpack discussed
  • Staffing needs for each academy discussed
  • Defense scoring and strategies
  • Student artifacts dropped in during Advisory and going forward with any quality assignment/assessment
  • No PLC meetings week of 10/8
  • PLC next week (10/2) we will look at possible artifacts
  • Dawn showed medical staff the backpack lesson that they missed due to scheduling conflicts

Discussion:

  • Develop a detailed pacing guide for Marla to present to business/industry members. 
    • Explain the content you teach & how it would be used in the industry
  •  Teachers moving (Comstock to room 227 & Armstrong to 232)
    •  Talked with Brennan about the details on moving these rooms
  •  Ruffin assisted Armstrong in creating MOS access codes for students now that she is moving to a lab. 
  •  Discussed students who are struggling in our classes. Developed an intervention plan for these students
    •  1st student conference 
    •  2nd notify parent/guardian 
    •  3rd Administration/ Counselor  referral 
  • Advisory meeting September 20
    •  Mrs. G will attend the advisory meeting with Nichelle Freer and industry people 
    •  Student attending D. Williams 
    •  Working on getting a parent to show up.

  •  Getting information about Foundations order for Financial Literacy courses (Ruffin will contact Mrs. Fegett to get an update on order. 
  •  Parent contacts- Make sure we are making our two calls a week and documenting each call home. Discussed types of contact (grade sheets, emails, etc)
  • Field Trips (JA Biz Town- For financial literacy (Comstock), Sullivan- for all business students usually in early November (Ruffin)
  •  Continued discussing HS to Business pathway course code 52.0201.01. Identified the EOC (End of course) testing for pathway. EOC (ASK-Fundamental Business Concepts & KOSSA Business Management)
  •  Discussed an ear bud policy to use within our department

PLC 9/4

Attendance: Armstrong, Bingham, Comstock, Grincius, Roy, Winter

Discussed the usage of the Valley Harbor and how to record minutes

- PGP and Student Learning Focus is due Friday.  Student Learning Focus should include Deeper Learning.  Chemistry wrote an excellent SLF and it was reviewed as an example

- Mr Bingham requested reading scores of students.  MAP scores were discussed and that he could pull his students 8th grade scores now.  Freshmen Academy should be in the process of completing MAP.

-Business teachers discussed the usage of google va Microsoft and the difficultly of the chrome books

Grincius and Armstrong are working toward becoming google certified.

Concerns were discussed regarding parent contact log.  Mrs Roy is going to take concerns to admin.
